Pattern #1898 I think a lot of babies get handmade gifts from grandmothers, aunts and friends.  Here are two items that make wonderful baby gifts.  These buntings are quick to make and so comforting for a young baby.  I'm told the baby models were so relaxed during the photography session they kept falling asleep!

Pattern #3079 This is a great gift  for a toddler to about a five year old child because the activities range from very simple, such as ringing the bell in the kitten's bow, to tying the bow on the shoe.  I drew on my experience as a toy designer when I made this project.  If you make if for someone, be sure to put the child's name on the cover instead of "MY".  I just put that there to make it universal, but you can customize it.

For older kids Simplicity has a terrific line of "Learn to Sew" patterns.

I designed the simplest one in this line.  This is the perfect first sewing project for any child, a pillow case with contrasting hem band and a tote bag that is constructed almost the same way with handles added.
