Back to reality, the bad and the good!!!!!

or ... the mess and the marvelous machine.

I know I've said it before, but this is the WORST my studio has EVER been ... what with getting ready for Costume Con and then having three projects to finish up the week following.  I will be shipping them out today and took photos of my workroom to prove it's awfulness.

You can see in the midst of all this, I'm trying to get my spring seedlings ready to go and to keep up with my music practicing (more on that in a future blog).  But, I'm afraid, I'm lucky to get 30 minutes of practicing done each day lately.

now for the GOOD ... Remember all my bad luck with that very large, very beautiful but problematic Bernina I bought last month?  If not click on these links for the story ... link 1, link 2, link 3, link 4, link 5

Well, I did what I should have done in the first place instead of being blindly Bernina loyal.  I researched and read as many reviews as I could.  And then when I narrowed it down to two machines I specifically looked for bad reviews and couldn't find a one for the machine I now very happily own, a Juki f600.

Here it is in action. It sews a really nice stitch on all kinds of fabric and that is so much more important to me that anything else, although the Bernina's fancy stitches were nicer, by a bit, the harp area (the space to the right of the needle) was larger and the Bernina was just a beautiful thing to look at.

It comes with many more feet and accessories than the Bernina.  And it is much cheaper to buy the extra things you might want.

It has a drop in bobbin, which I know I said I didn't like in a previous blog, but I could get use to being able to see when the thread is getting low on my bobbin.

The needle threader works really well! I didn't think I would use it, but it really is easier than threading a needle the old fashioned way.  That new Bernina has needle threader, too, but both the sales ladies at the store couldn't get it to work.  Only after about 6 tries did it work for one of them.  A little thing, true, but just illustrates the fussiness of that big beautiful Bernina.

My muslin traveling companion likes it, too!

I LOVE that your sewing room is messy! It just validates my theory that creativity is always messy. I try to keep my room neat but that goes right out the window with each new project.
Congrats on the new machine!

Hi Andrea! I'm reading through your blog from the beginning and happy to hear that you found this machine. It's been my go-to machine for several years now. Funny you should mention the needle threader; it's the only thing I don't like on it. I prefer using Microtex sharps, and they're too narrow for the needle threader on my Juki. I have a Bernina right beside the Juki that I use as back up, and the Bernina needle threader works great on the same needles.
