FROZEN FRENZY

I don't think even Disney thought it's new movie Frozen would become the mega-hit it has. But it's popularity can be seen everywhere, even wandering the halls of the Costume Con I attended in Toronto a couple weeks ago!

Everyone is clambering for merchandise.  There are stories of unhappy children and desperate moms unable to find Frozen anything in the stores because it's all sold out ... so ...

I went shopping, just at my local Joann's, and have decided to publishes a series of blogs that will show you, step by step, how to modify an existing pattern into 3 of the dresses from the movie to fit kids or adults.

Really they are basic dresses with embellishments. True ... LOTS of embellishments!

You know, now that animation is done with computers, the garments the characters wear can be so much more complicated!!!! grrrr!

Back in the day when each little animation cell had to be hand painted, Snow White or Cinderella didn't have a million little petals and leaves all over their skirts. But that is what we are dealing with now, so I will help you figure out how to do this with as little pain as possible ... for me AND for you.

Since all three dresses have long straight sleeves and bodices that point in the front and two of the dresses are high necked with a band collar, I am going to use this basic costume dress pattern of mine that conveniently comes in three size ranges (#3725 Girl's 4 - 14, # 3723 Misses 6 - 22, and # 2354 Plus size 18 - 32) although I'm not 100% sure of the availability of the plus size right now. It's around though.

Below are my fabric groups ... can you guess which dress each pile will become?

All three patterns are available at www.sewingpatterns.com. The two smaller sizes are $5.99. The plus size one is $3.99. Plus postage. I'm not connected except as a mostly happy customer.
