So, I'm going to tell you how you can get some neat handwoven fabric without the horrible jet lag. And it was pretty horrible ...
Most of the things for sale in the store at the silk farm were ready to wear garments, accessories and home decor items, but there was a corner with fabric. I didn't want to get a fine lightweight silk, because I don't really need the kind of garment that would be made out of that kind of fabric, so I was looking at the fabric made with raw silk. I chose this one because of the warp and weft were different colors. I always like that effect.
Another day I was snooping around on ebay and typed in "handwoven fabric" and all sorts of neat stuff popped up. Lots of fabric from India and Southeast Asia! And this vintage Ikat Sari woven with red and green, the same colors as my silk, selling for $10 for the whole piece with shipping $7.99. Unbelievable!! really. Totally worth the gamble of having it sent clear round the world.
Here are links to some fabrics on sale the day I'm writing this Sept. 25, 2013. Read the descriptions closely though. Some are being sold by the yard or meter and some are entire lengths of fabric like the sari I just bought.
Grey and White Ikat from India
Multi color Ikat from India

Beautiful vintage silk sari
It's hard to stop. There are a lot of very nice fabrics for sale on Ebay. Take a look!
