Mid-West Sewing Academy report

There was an eclectic grouping of events at the conference center in Collinsville, Illinois, just outside of Saint Louis, Missouri on Saturday.  Someone there was trying to figure out a scenario where one could logically attend all four events.  Her reasoning went something like this ... go see the costumers first for a disguise, then go buy a gun so you could hold a psychic hostage to make her give you tips where and how you could rob a bank and then use the money to take your daughter to the dance!!  (I apologize for not remembering the name of the person who told me this ... please leave a comment if you know).

But, anyway, the first year for the Mid-West Costume Academy was a great success, even with a significant snow storm on it's way the evening of.  There were classes to interest and teach techniques to costumers with a broad range of interests. Click on the link about to see the list of classes and teachers.

Sheila Lenkman, who has been wanting to have an event like this for 12 years now (she told me) did a stupendous job finding expert instructors for all the various sessions. Jeremy Johnson, who worked multiple miracles helping Sheila realize her dream, pulled together all the necessary stuff, like the website, venue and loads and loads of helpers to make sure the rooms were ready with whatever was needed to keep the schedule on schedule.

This was the rare costumer's event where people were told absolutely not the wear costumes to cut down on distractions and the space really wasn't large enough for hoops, bustles and trains.  So for that reason and because I was scheduled for a lot of teaching, I didn't take any photos.  But, I got someone to take a photo of me in my thrift store Fairy Wear sweater.  That was my way of cheating a little and, kind of, wearing a costume.

I'm sorry the back photo is a bit blurry, but I'm going to blog soon about how I made this.

So, THANK YOU ... THANK YOU, Sheila and Jeremy for treating me like queen for a day!

And the good news is ... they are already planning next year and want me back.

YAY!!
