I am happy to let you all know about a new event for everyone who loves to make costumes of all kinds. It is called  the Midwest Costume Academy - a costume class at the Gateway Center in Collinsville, Illinois. which is just outside St. Louis and it will take place on Saturday March 1, 2014.

Jeremy Johnson is the instigator along with Sheila Lenkman, who is primarily known for her work at Archon, the Midwest’s biggest and oldest regional Sci-Fi and Fantasy convention. She also is a very experienced theatrical costumer working at The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis since 1995.  Jeremy is very active in Anime costuming.  Here is an interview with Jeremy I found on Youtube.
Jeremy wants to get something started in the Midwest similar to Costume College in Los Angeles.  I know many of you know about Costume College and have attended, but for those who don't, you must read the review at HistoricalSewing.com by Jennifer Rosbrugh. Costume College is weekend event actually 3+ days as Jennifer puts it.  This new event is only one day of classes and I'm not sure what else at this point.

Why am I bring this up?? Well,  I am one of the speakers!! I am offering 5 different sessions.
It is very exciting to be part of a new event like this.

This link will take you to the home page for The Midwest Costume Academy.  There are bios of all the speakers, a list of classes (not complete yet), and other useful information.  If any one who reads my blog is coming, please let me know.  We can have lunch together ... or something.

Hi Andrea! I have been going to Costume College in Los Angeles as a teacher for years and believe I met you some years past. This looks interesting but I have to see how to get there, if I can do a long drive from Des Moines. If so, it would be great to meet up with you. Love all the info on your blog.

We need to support these new "Costume Colleges" that are starting up! They are so fun and help share costuming knowledge among the newbies and old-timers alike. Alas, I wish I could be there in 2014 but cannot. I met you, Andrea, when you came to CoCo in 2005 (?) with Martha McCain and would love to take classes from you again. Have fun in March!

And thanks for the mention too! Cheers!
