She is a Uniquely You dress form!  I just wrangled the cover on her, but it needs fitting.  So, she is my 9th dress form, if you count my dog form.  I have a 6 month infant, size 4 child, size 10 boy/girl, Simplicity misses size 10 with legs, a Simplicity size 10 Uniquely You form, a form roughly my size, a man's size 40, a medium dog and now a Simplicity size 22.

Do you know about these dress forms?  They are basically a woman shaped block of foam that a cover fits over.  The foam comes in several sizes and the covers come in even more sizes.  The idea is you have someone fit the cover on you and then put it on the form.  It works pretty well actually and they are not too expensive, in the $150 - $175 range. AND they are great if you are making something with a lot of boning or something to be worn over a corset.  You just put the corset on the form and then the garment over that.

But, they are REALLY funny looking before the cover goes on.

Since I am not trying to make this the shape of a specific person, I will put the cover on first, then take measurements, and then adjust it to be Simplicity size 22, basically 44" - 37" - 46".

First pull the shoe laces that are between the boobs through the 2 eyelets of the cover.

Pull it around to the back.

Start the zipper.

Then squeeze it between your knees and finish zipping, all the while adjusting it to be even.

Here she is next to my size 10.  You can see I need to work on her.  That's for tomorrow's blog.

Below is the size range they come in. And below that is a video showing one person's experience with a Uniquely You form.

Something else weird/fun?  I bought a bathing suit at Costco and it came on this clear plastic form.

I can't throw it out. It must be good for something ... but what?

And on a hopeful note, I cleared enough away so my twice monthly cleaning crew can get in and CLEAN!  I haven't allowed them in for months. I'm washing the rugs right now.

And you know, I am asthmatic.  You would think I'd do this more often.  But, it is so hard to find a day between projects.

I laughed out loud at the plastic form!!! Remember the old Barbie clothes used to come on tiny little plastic forms just like that! It took some dumb swimsuit company to come up with an idea that was used over fifty years ago! I still have my 1959 Barbie doll and some I'd
F the original clothes, as well as the round doll suitcase with the looped handle..

Lynn,
I still have all my original Barbie stuff, too. I wrote some blogs about it. Type Barbie into the search box on my site, if you want to see them. I'd love to see your Barbie stuff.

I'll be interested in your write up on this. I've done the initial fitting on mine but haven't taken in the post-foam alterations yet. My size is much smaller than their smallest form and cover, I'm worried about the thing bursting on me! (also had to, erm, de-Madonna the boobs a bit like in the video)
