Outdoor Chair Cushions Part 1 - planning

Time for a new outdoor dining set. I am so tired of outdoor tables getting rusted, so this time I wanted an aluminum dining set for my outdoor deck, but they are expensive!!
Picture
So I headed to my computer to do some serious comparison shopping and found a really nice table I could afford, but without chairs.
Picture
The chairs were harder.  To buy 6 chairs was even more expensive, but I finally found some I liked and were affordable.  I ordered everything ... and when they arrived I saw, to my horror, the table is brown and the chairs are black.

What to do ... what to do?  Spray paint the table black?? That would be a messy job.  Then it occurred to me maybe cushions could help tie the table and chairs together.  Back to the computer and found out the bad news that cushions with backs, which is what I need, run from $50 and up. That kind of would counteract all my bargain hunting.

Well, I sew ... so ... I guess I will make them.

Back to the computer for bargain fabric.  I found outdoor fabric at fabrics.com for $9 a yard and using a 50% off coupon at JoAnn's I bought an entire box of NU-Foam (the special batting for outdoors) at half price, about $10 a yard, bringing my cost to about $20 per cushion.  Plus you can see the fabric will really help the table look like it goes with the chairs.

Over the next week or two I will post a few blogs about the making of these cushions ... stay tuned.

Hey, that material truly blends in the table and chairs. Plus I find the fabric attractive. Nice selection. I'm looking forward to seeing it come together. What's for lunch? LOL. The Goose

Hi Andrea, I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the cushions. I'm working on a table and chairs right now (they are wrought iron). So I'm sanding and scraping waiting for your storm to pass so I can get on to repainting them. Then on to cushions. Love the fabric too!

Like the filigree look on the table. Your fabric choice is great for tying it all together. Inspiring me to think about updating my chair cushions, too!

I think that every table should have protection. So let him preserve a long time.
