So ... I didn't even know about this until I read someone else's Facebook post ... BUT ... Simplicity has a new service. They are starting to offer out of print patterns on demand. It's expensive, $25, but I've seen many of these pattern going for more than that on eBay and other similar sites.

Here are three of mine that are now available ... BUT!!!! even better ... a bunch of Martha McCain's wonderful Civil War stuff is there, including her men's clothing, which is the best out there.

I asked what kind of paper the patterns will be printed on and this is what I was told.

It’s a heavier-gauge white paper (much sturdier than tissue but lighter than copy paper).  The pattern, instructions and yardage info is printed on a single continuous sheet of this paper, which is then folded, hand packed and shipped in a cardboard box.

This link will take you to the ON DEMAND page.

So ... let me know the patterns you would like to see offered and I will pass your requests along.

Thank you so much for the head's up!
I'd love it if they brought back the Henry VIII set: 9633, 9650 and the Elizabethan 5574.

Thanks so much!

Delighful that they're offering this service. Sadly, the one pattern that I want more than any other is not even a costume pattern, though for historic reproduction purposes, they should consider it! Simplicity 6400 - the Yves Saint Laurent Mondrian Dress pattern, is the one that is most like his best known version of the Mondrian concept. I will keep wishing.

I'd love to see the old toddler renn costumes (5517) and girls renn dresses (9836)!

That is so worth it to me! Especially if the paper is better than tissue and these 3 patterns by you and the ones by Martha are just fabulous!!!!

I need to check my stash now :)

I would like to see 4942, Mens LOTR ELVEN Renaissance Medieval Tunic Renfaire XS-XL. Even at 25.00 it would be half of what people want on Ebay.

I second this whole heartedly. The only one on eBay is currently going for $125. It's crazy and my original pattern got damaged beyond use in a move. :(

You can actually buy many of the available patterns digitally from sewingpatterns.com. Then you can print them and assemble them as many times as you want with no need to trace them off for different sizes. AND... they're only $3.99 each.

I thought there was a limit of 3 downloads for each of the patterns purchased at sewingpatterns.com. Also, you have to have their software (PrintSew) to be able to view the patterns, and you can't save them to your computer as a PDF. All things to consider, perhaps?

Are they going to open this up to more than just historical patterns? I am a huge fan of 5386 for an assortment of projects.

As I mentioned in my comment on your last blog post, it's a pity that Simplicity only offers postage on these patterns within the US. I hope they change that policy pretty fast! (I'm also hoping that McCalls takes note of the idea, and offers their ABT Tutu patterns from the early 80s on demand; they can sell for upward of $500 each!)

hah, all the ones I was thinking I'd like to see available are mentioned in comments already! I feel like I have found my people. :) this is a great service, about time. Maybe SOMEDAY the big fabric stores will just have a big-paper printer, and with an internet connection to the pattern company's database they can print anything, and nothing will have to go out of print again!

8640 and 9699: 1910s dress patterns.
Also, if anyone knows of interesting 1920s patterns that are more than just a tube with fringe, I'd love to see them as well. It's frustrating that pattern companies so frequently produce patterns a year or so after a certain period look has started to wane in popularity. I've always assumed that it just takes time to get manufacturing lined up, but they seem to have no trouble getting the latest cartoon craze knocked out fast.
