Quick Christmas curtains - done!

Little did I know, when I said I would make quick Christmas curtains, how important the quick part would be! Simplicity has me doing Halloween for next year right now, which is earlier than usual. And on a very, very tight deadline. It's really messing things up.  I think people are going to be getting rain checks on gifts I was planning to make ... sigh.

So last time, I cut and hemmed really, really long pieces of sheer fabric and hung them from the corners of my living room windows ... read old post. Today I will make them Christmassy.

Remember the pattern of fabric flowers I made?  I think it came out in the summer.

Here is a link for the blog I wrote about the poinsettia.

Anyway, I decided to make a bunch to decorate my curtains and other things.

How many poinsettias can I make with 1/2 yard of burlap?

The answer ... ten!

Remember, I said these had to be quick.  So instead of zigzagging all around them, I straight stitched the edges, which kept them from fraying just as well. I always sew things in a chain and cut apart when I'm finished ... saves time and a little thread, too.  I also didn't sew the little felt circle on the bottom to cover the raw edges.  The felt leaves did a pretty good job of that anyway.

I finished 4 and pinned them to the corners of the two curtains. I bet you've noticed the lights in the curtains.  I ran a string of white light inside each curtain which makes a nice defused light ...

AND you can't see them when they are turned off.

The sad thing is ... I had planned this whole poinsettia theme this year .... Look at this pretty print I was planning to make a table cloth with.  I also, was going to make the rest of the cut out red poinsettias and a bunch of white ones.

OH WELL ... There will be more Christmases ...

I like the idea of Christmas Curtains. Possible remedy for apartment dwellers or people who cannot put outdoor lights/trims up, but would like to have some festive decoration visible. The Goose

Oh, I forgot to mention that the poinsettias also make attractive trim on Christmas gifts. Use them instead of a bow! The Goose
