Random wonderfulness at Costume Con

This was one of my favorite entries called Miss OZ Pageant.  Each of the eleven members of this group made an 18th Century costume depicting a character or thing from the Oz story.
Read the Threads of Life Blog to find out more.
Picture
I was told somewhere on the web are official/good photos of the costumes from all the competitions, but I haven't been able to find them.  So, you are going to have to put up with the photos I was able to snap for myself.  And, please, if you know where to find the good photos leave a comment below!
Picture
This was a very unusual costume of a cottage I saw on Friday night in the bar. It is a costume of a Russian folk tale, Hut of Baba Yaga (thank you Tarisa!) AND I'm not quite sure how she sat down in this.
Picture
Friday night I judged the Single Pattern Competition.  Two Simplicity patterns were chosen (a mermaid costume and my old werewolf costume) and since I was judging was only able to take 2 photos.  boo hoo
People are supposed to use these patterns as a starting point to make whatever they want, but the pattern should still be recognizable.

To the left is a very blurry photo of a werewolf Red Hat Society Lady.  Really well done!
Please let me know if a better photo can be found, I love this! There is another costume I loved that was a ghostly fairy.  I want to find a photo of that, too.

Picture
This is my other photo from the Single pattern competition.  She won "best literal interpretation".  Can you see ... she actually USED the Simplicity pattern!
Picture
This is my only photo from the Future Fashion Show.  I moderated the Simplicity Fashion show during the judges deliberation for this competition, so couldn't take photos.  But this entry I saw before hand was made by my friend Janet Prey, a beautifully done realization of a fantasy fashion drawing by someone else.  This is very interesting competition.  Many months before Costume Con, people submit artwork of totally wild and fantasy garments, then someone completely different makes it up.
Picture
This costume made by Mary Parulski and won best workmanship at the Historical competition.  It was made with Martha McCain's first Civil War pattern with really striking fabric choices.  Let's hope Simplicity can re-release it.
Picture
Also from the Historical competition was this group of Pan Am stewardesses.  They won for best research. They made every piece of their costumes, except for the shoes.  This included girdles and 1960's bullet bras!
Picture
Best in Show for the Historical competition was this statue of Athena.  She LOOKED like the statue.  I spoke with her the day after and found out this costume took three years to make ... truly breath taking.

I just found a blog with photos of hall costumes I never even saw.  Click this to see them.
Picture
This was one of my favorite costume that won best in category as a novice at the Sci Fi competition. Her name is Laurie and she has a blog with MORE photos from Toronto. She has a long explanation of the OZ Pageant with many more photos.

This Costume Con had almost three times as many attendees than there usually is and I didn't get to the Sci Fi competition early enough and got a terrible seat, so far in the back of the room I couldn't take any photos. So again, I'm hoping to find more on line as people have time to post them.

There is still more to tell ... hope I can find more for you ...

OH MY!! So many attractive and inventive costumes! Judging any of them would be a difficult job. ALL of them look like winners. How inspiring! The Goose

Thank you for the kind words! I was the Witch in the Miss Oz Pageant and it is nice to know that people liked what we did. We had such a good time performing and hanging out together. Thank you as well for making such great patterns. In many ways it makes it easier for all of us!

The Russian folk lore costume is the Hut of Baba Yaga! And that costume of Athena Parthenos is amazing <3

She likes us...she really, really likes us! *mufflessquee*

Thank you! I was Dorothy. I also wore the Dalek Queen Elizabeth, an 18th century seamstress Robe Francaise, Mrs. White, and the Steampunk Circus lion tamer.

I've used your patterns many times. My favorite is S8399. I made the dress out of a purple sari. Also, I own 10 copies of S2172. I really didn't want anyone in a 25 mile radius to have the same costume as me at the time. >:)

Sadly, I haven't seen any quality sets from the Single Pattern Contest or the Future Fashion Show yet. And at random, I'm glad that you and so many others appreciated Shawna's literal use of the mermaid pattern - I was her design/assembly helper on that one ^_^

Thank you for all of these. Unfortunately the ones on eleventhphotograh have been taken down and the ones at flicker cannot be copied. I would PAY for some good photos.

Thanks for the post! As the Wizard from Oz, it's nice to get the positive feedback. And while I was able to sit in my 6-ft-wide panniers, I could not sit in my hut costume. I was wearing comfy shoes inside the chicken feet.

Thanks for posting the picture of me in the 1860's day dress. I really enjoyed chatting with you when you were about to catch the bus to the airport. Hopefully we shall meet again. I hope Martha liked the outcome of her pattern.
Cheer, Mary
