Sewcial - Sewing retreat, in April

I lot has been going on for me recently. If you notice I've been writing about almost everything except sewing for the last few weeks.

Simplicity has assigned me my first three Halloween projects, so I'm busy with that. My husband and I are getting ready for a move out to California for a three month stay AND I've been asked to do some interesting teaching in the Spring.

Let me tell you about one neat new event. It is being run by the same folks that do the American Sewing Expo in Novi, Michigan and is called, Sewcial ... get it??!!
The event is for just 100 participants and four teachers. Participants will be arranged into four groups of 25 so they can take the same 4 classes over the weekend of April 8 - 10. Friday night is a cocktail party then on both Saturday and Sunday everyone will take two 4 hour classes a day. So, the teachers will teach the same class four times to the four different groups.
There are plans for fun extracurricular activities in the evenings ... nothing is set in stone yet, so I can't say exactly what these are, but will keep you all up to date. But, I can say the idea for this to be a relaxing event with time to hang out and get to know new people.

I know I could use some social time like this.

I will be teaching my "Combining Commercial Patterns" class. This is a hands on class where everyone will make new designs using a set of basic patterns that Simplicity has printed out for me at the 50% scale, which is a great way to learn pattern drafting. Many design school have their students work on the 50% scale. You can even buy cute little professional dress forms in this size.

The other three teachers are ...
Janet Pray, who will be teaching commercial sewing techniques, really useful to improve your speed and accuracy.
Here is a link to her Craftys page with a short bio.
Gail Yellen, who will be teaching super serging techniques. Here is link to her bio. and ...
Jennifer Stern, who will be teaching a class on pattern making with emphasis on fit.
Here is a link to her blog and website.

These are super experienced and super famous sewing teachers. I am really excited and honored to be included with them.

So, I'll keep you posted with information as the planning progresses.

I am a commercial pattern maker who is now "sewing over 50"!
I love to sew and hope to encourage others to come back to sewing.
    The water is fine!!
