Shopping for Decorator fabric

Everyone knows that last week I made a slipcover for my old couch so my son could use it in the apartment he will be moving into soon.

This means I need a new couch, which was delivered a few days ago ... I LOVE IT!!

It takes me a while ... like years sometimes ... to get geared up to re-do a room.  The sticking point with my living room was a huge grand piano that no one was playing anymore.  I had to get it out before starting anything else. It took up SO much room. And grand pianos are hard to place now a days, much less actually sell.  I ended up donating mine.

Now I'm on a roll and I have two old Queen Ann's chairs that desperately need to be reupholstered.  And there is this fabulous decorator fabric warehouse an hour's drive from my home that is having 35% off everything for most of the month of November.  Here was my best chance at getting something nice at a reasonable price.

I needed to find something that would look good with this rug that my husband and I really like. I know it's busy, but I like it ... what can I say?

Also, I am having a new coffee table and end table made in Bali out of this piece of wood I chose.  I hope it arrives before the holidays, but I'm not holding my breath.

So, yesterday I took a field trip and a very good friend came along for moral support and as a second pair of eyes.  This is my friend, who LOVES decorating and is good at it.  Since, knowing the way things go for me, I will be living with these decisions for 20 years.  It is good to have a second opinion and a second pair of eyes.

And I have to add, she drove 45 minutes to get to my house and THEN the hour plus to the warehouse and back!

Anyway, this place is great!   

It goes on and on and on. And the prices are really good, but even better is the selection.


My friend told me not to take a photo of her, but I did!

It is very interesting that when you walk through any one area a second and third time, you see things that you walked right past the first time.  So we walked and walked sometimes carrying a bolt from one end of the warehouse to the other to see what looked good with what.  I brought a swatch of the couch fabric and a large photo of my rug. 

Well, after an hour and a half we found something for the chairs that made me very happy and she liked, too. And she found a really cool small print for a few throw pillow for the couch.  

I bought her a well earned lunch and when we got home, we spread things out.

Now just have to find an upholsterer, we know I can make pillows!
