Steampunk #1093 - lace mitering

On Monday I confessed to having FUN! while working on this pattern. Well, apparently I was having so much fun, that I didn't take very many photos while sewing.

But I did take a great series of photos while mitering the lace on this corset, so that's what you will get today.

And ... looking at the close up of this costume, I'd forgotten I put a delicate lace edging on the white collar. Thats' a nice surprise to see.

If I were making this for myself, I would probably put more details on like that. I hope you add your own personal touches. YOU DO NOT have to do it like the picture!

Anyway ... step by step lace mitering.

First cut a piece of lace the length needed plus a tiny bit extra (just in case).
Then fold it in half making sure a motif is in the center.
Place a pin to show the angle of the center front. You will be sewing along this line.
Picture
Since is it such a short thing to sew and I didn't want to risk the motif slipping, I hand stitched along the miter line using a hand back stitch.
Picture
To make the miter lay evenly I clipped it down the center and pressed the seam open.
Picture
It now could be centered on the point, pinned evenly to both edges and stitched in place.
Picture
And the edges bound!

This is what the inside looks like.

Sometimes when I place trim over boning, it needs to be hand sewn or glued so as not to get in the way of the boning. But this time the 1/2" bias tape was just the right size to just cover the bone tape stitching. The bone tape is stitched WITHOUT the bones in it. (much easier, just insert bones after) So, the bone tape was stitched on first using the red thread going through to the outside fabric. This covers the seam allowance on the inside (which as been trimmed down to 1/4" after the corset is fit and pressed open). Then I stitched the blue bias tape (the blue thread) centering it over the seam line.
Picture
See the cute bloomers that were taken out of the pattern (no room on the pattern tissue) BUT you could find another bloomer pattern and add them back!

I'm planning on starting a gallery of costumes readers have made using any one of my patterns. Please take photos if you make this up!

I've started this costume and have finished everything except the collar, because I am having a very hard time understanding the band attachment. Can someone help me with this? Thank you!
