What is wrong with this picture???

You guessed it ... WHERE"S THE SEWING MACHINE????
Picture
Excuse me ... I  mean the sewing COMPUTER!!

Let us just say, yesterday did not go as planned ... sniff!

First, I want to explain that just a little over a year ago I made the switch from PCs to Apple computers. In the process I took a bunch of one on one lessons at the Apple store and now am pretty comfortable messing around, CAREFULLY, with computers.

So, when the lovely Bernina lady encouraged me, during my lesson, to just try all the settings "you can't hurt this machine", I took her at her word.  Poor thing, I must have been driving her crazy saying "what's this do?", "what happens when I touch this?"

Turns out, I touched something on the screen that only the repairman (aka technician) is supposed to touch and totally froze up the computer.  The lady couldn't fix it, even after she called her technician.  So, I had to leave my machine overnight.  It's fixed now, but the technician had to call Bernina central and have them talk him through fixing it.

I'm 99% sure of the thing I touched that I shouldn't have and won't again. And am glad it happened in the store instead of after I got it home.

But ... SEE!! ... this is why I've been avoiding a computerized machine for so long ... excuse me, a sewing computer ... ha ha!

But, I did get almost two hours sewing and playing around before the thing froze up.  It is a nice machine/computer.  The choice of programmed in buttonholes will be such a pleasure.

I've never been one for fancy stitches or machine embroidery, but this may change.

I will read the manual carefully and take seriously any warnings.

And I am grateful for the 20 year warranty.

You know ... I just read over this and it sounds funny and in a way it is funny, but I can't tell you how SAD I was to have to leave this machine at the store after waiting for it for a month.

BUT, I'm going back today ... will report back tomorrow.

LOL!! errr, I mean sorry about your Sewing COMPUTER. Doncha love it when someone tells you, you can't hurt whatever, and you play with the contraption and "break it" after being told you couldn't hurt it?! Will be waiting to see all the fancy-dancy stuff you can do with it. Enjoy! The Goose

That seems to be a really bad element of design, when the consumer is able to freeze up the entire board just by pressing an easy-access screen. Not a good omen! I'd understand if it was an easy fix, like simply re-booting the machine by turning it off and on again. But that sounds like anyone with an inquisitive toddler around could wind up with an expensive fix on their hands. I'd suggest you keep the box and all the paperwork!

yep! I'm keeping every little plastic bag, twist tie and hang tag. They say I have 30 days to return it.

I had the same thought when Janome came out with their upgraded version of the 6600. It had a beautiful, bright, shiny red dial that spun VERY easily (I mean, even if you brushed the back of your hand against it by accident, it would turn) and I thought, heaven help whoever buys that machine who has a toddler in the house!
